Yisa created five public art mosaic for Ogunnubi Architectural Firm in Lagos, Nigeria in 1997 before immigrating to Canada. These mosaics were installed on prominent buildings in Ikeja, Lagos. The artist continues to see the value of community beautification through mosaic installation once he settled in Canada his new home. He worked with a journeyman to install a H70” x W36” mosaic in North End, Winnipeg, and another experienced builder to install a H36”x W192” mosaic on his house in River Park South, Winnipeg.
“The building structure, the environment, and collaboration with the architectural designers determine how I create my composition (figurative, non-figurative or abstract) so that the architecture, the environment and my work all complement one another. My work is not complete until people have seen and interacted with it. I also take great pride in knowing the durability of my public art creations and their ability to withstand diverse weather conditions and the chance of vandalism. This is a legacy for future generations”.
